Let's start from the beginning...
ArtX 295- Sculpture: Thing/Nothing
Through hours of material exploration, meditation practices, and studies with natural materials, we manifested the negative space between nature and the human mind into 3D forms.

This project was originally designed for a group, but due to unforeseen circumstances, I completed it alone, immediately setting me up for various challenges. It didn't take long to discover that the intricate design I fell in love with would be an arduous fight against the time constraint, causing me to make structural sacrifices and measurement changes throughout the process. This project undoubtedly put to the test our discussions and practices on meditation as it relates to finding patience, opportunity, and flow within the challenges that often arise in creative work.
This exercise brought nature and self into quiet partnership. After an hour of solo walking in meditation, we collected only what lay nearby—wood, pine needles, pine cones—to create a piece that echoed the landscape and disappeared into it. When we were done, each work was carefully taken apart and returned to the forest

For this sculpture, we were asked to draw inspiration from nature and use natural materials to express a theme. Influenced by my love of interior design—particularly lighting—I created a chandelier-like form that hangs at eye level. Using sticks to build a cage-like dome, I layered greenery and floral elements to bring balance, color, and a sense of nature’s gentle, ephemeral comfort. The warm yellow light was meant to evoke awe and ease, recalling an origin we all share. The piece reflects my belief that amid daily stress, nature reminds us of what endures; it persists regardless of our human-made pressures. I believe this same sense of grounding and comfort should be carried into our interior spaces

With this project—being focused on the concept of lines or two connecting points—I was interested in lines that I often think about and see in my daily life. Desire paths are paths formed by both humans and animals and represent our instinct of motion in terms of convenience or efficiency, often neglected in urban/site design. They are paths that are unplanned by designers and contradict their plans set in stone by copious amounts of cement, asphalt, and concrete, rendering their modern designs faulty or inefficient in the eyes of the ancient human instinct. I designed these plaster forms to be geometric both physically as well as visually with geometric-shaped textures and indentations on their faces. I placed them in this location where I have often walked or felt the desire to walk, and where I have seen others act on their desire, as well.

Monochrome
Monochrome is a sculptural exploration of the relationship between nature and interior design, a theme that has profoundly influenced my creative practice. Inspired by Japanese interior design, this project features a collection of hand-painted ceramic forms resting atop a wooden credenza that I also designed and constructed. I have always felt a strong pull towards the influence of spaces on our well-being, and more specifically how interior design often succeeds in creating a strong barrier between an interior, restrictive, sedentary life from the natural world—something that we have a strong energetic relationship with. Whatever our personal relationship with nature may be, it impacts our well-being in numerous ways, for better or for worse.
